Shopify Integration: Checkout Extension

This guide walks you through how to add the TYB wallet checkout extension to your brand's website so members can see their coin balance and membership level without leaving your store.

TYB Checkout Extension: Setup

This guide walks you through how to add the TYB checkout extension to your Shopify store so members can redeem coins directly at checkout — without leaving your site.

Overview

The TYB Checkout Extension is an embedded block that lives at checkout on your Shopify store. When a logged-in TYB member goes to check out, they'll see their coin balance and be able to apply a redemption directly at the point of purchase — no need to generate a code in the TYB app first.

  • Requirements: Shopify Plus only.
  • Time to set up: ~5 minutes.

Why Set This Up?

The checkout extension removes friction from the redemption experience. Instead of a member having to open the TYB app, generate a discount code, copy it, and paste it at checkout, they can see and apply their coins right where they're already buying.

Brands with the checkout extension live see stronger redemption rates and repeat purchase behavior — because the path from "I have coins" to "I used them" is as short as possible. It also reinforces TYB membership at the highest-intent moment: when someone is already checking out.

Before You Start

Make sure you:

  • Are on Shopify Plus (this feature is not available on standard Shopify plans)
  • Have editor access to your Shopify checkout settings
  • Your TYB community is live or nearly ready to launch
⚠️

Only activate the checkout extension once your community is live on TYB. Publishing it before launch will show an empty state to your customers at checkout.

Step 1: Go to Your Checkout Editor

  1. In Shopify, navigate to Settings → Checkout and accounts
  1. Click Go to Checkout Editor

Step 2: Add the TYB App

  1. In the Checkout Editor, click Add app
  1. Find and select TYB from the list of available apps
  1. Enable Allow app to block checkout when prompted

Step 3: Position and Save

  1. Choose where you'd like the TYB block to appear on the checkout page (we recommend placing it above the payment section so members see their coin balance before entering payment details)
  1. Click Save

The checkout extension is now live on your store.

What Members See

Once the extension is active, logged-in TYB members checking out on your site will see:

  • Their current coin balance
  • Their membership level (e.g. Level 1, Level 2, Level 3 — or your custom level names)
  • The option to apply a coin redemption directly at checkout

Best Practices

  • Time it with your launch. Enable the extension on or after your community launch date so members have coins to redeem as soon as they check out.
  • Pair it with your post-purchase email flow. If you're sending a post-purchase email directing customers to join TYB, the checkout extension is a great payoff — the next time they buy, their coins are right there waiting.
  • Mention it in your launch communications. Let members know they can redeem directly at checkout — this is a strong incentive to join and engage early so they have coins ready to use.

Troubleshooting

The extension isn't showing up for members at checkout.

  • Confirm the TYB Redemption App is fully connected and showing as Active in your Shopify integration settings
  • Make sure the member is logged in to both Shopify and TYB with the same email address
  • Try refreshing the Checkout Editor and re-saving

I don't see TYB as an option in the app list.

  • Confirm you're on Shopify Plus — this feature is not available on other Shopify plans
  • Make sure the TYB Shopify app has been fully installed and approved. If you're unsure, reach out to your Brand Success Manager
