Klaviyo Integration Guide: Flows, Segments, and Dynamic Emails

A step-by-step guide to setting up flows, segments, and dynamic emails using your TYB community data in Klaviyo.

Overview

The TYB-Klaviyo integration automatically syncs zero-party data from your TYB community into Klaviyo, keeping profiles updated daily. Once connected, you can use this data to build personalized flows, targeted segments, and dynamic emails that reflect real-time community activity.

Coming soon, TYB will also begin sending Member Attributes to Klaviyo — a richer layer of zero-party data your members share directly through TYB, such as skin type, hair texture, taste preferences, and allergies. This goes beyond loyalty and membership status to capture who your members actually are and what they prefer (see Coming Soon: TYB Member Attributes below).

Before You Start: Enable the Integration

This guide assumes your Klaviyo integration is already connected and syncing. If you haven't set it up yet, follow the Klaviyo Integration Setup guide first, then allow up to 24 hours for TYB data to appear on your Klaviyo profiles.

Step 1: Understand Which Properties Sync

The TYB → Klaviyo integration syncs real-time community, commerce, and loyalty data into Klaviyo profiles — membership status, purchase signals, tier progression, coin and cash balances, and redemption eligibility. Because this data comes straight from your members' activity in TYB, it enables segmentation, lifecycle automation, and highly personalized messaging on signals you can't get anywhere else: who your most engaged members are, what they buy, how close they are to the next tier, and exactly what they can redeem right now.

These fields are designed to help brands:

  • Personalize messaging using real community behavior and purchase signals
  • Drive repeat purchases using coin balances, cash value, and redemption signals
  • Segment users by lifecycle stage, engagement depth, and loyalty tier
  • Trigger automated flows tied to rewards, redemption eligibility, and progression milestones

Note on Data Types

TYB supports both coin-based and hybrid (coin + spend) progression models. Some fields will only populate depending on the brand’s configuration.

TYB Member Attributes

Beyond the loyalty and membership fields above, TYB will begin sending Member Attributes to Klaviyo — structured, actionable zero-party data that turns community activity into personalization fuel. There are four types:

  • TYB-generated — AI-powered signals like Community Score, our proprietary indicator of member quality
  • Behavioral — how members engage in your community, e.g. challenges completed
  • Commerce — value signals like lifetime earnings
  • Custom — brand-specific traits and preferences collected through Challenge polls, e.g. skin type/texture, hair type, taste preferences, allergies, preferred metal, pet type

This lets you personalize at a depth impossible to infer from clicks and purchases alone — like tailoring routines by skin concern or steering allergens out of product recommendations. You name each custom attribute in TYB, and that's the field you'll segment on in Klaviyo.

For a full breakdown of Member Attribute types, set-up, and use cases, see the Member Attributes guide.

Step 2: Build Your Segments

Before building flows, set up the following foundational segments in Lists & Segments > Create Segment.

Active TYB Members

tyb_community_member equals true

TYB Members with Coins to Spend

tyb_community_member equals true
AND tyb_coin_balance is greater than 0

Non-Members (Post-Purchase Acquisition)

tyb_community_member does not equal true
OR tyb_community_member is not set

Step 2B: Build Segments from Challenge Response Data

You can also build advanced segments using exported challenge responses.

How to export

  1. Go to TYB Brand Admin
  1. Open a challenge
  1. Navigate to Responses / Reporting
  1. Export CSV (includes emails + responses)

How to import into Klaviyo

  1. Clean CSV (email + response fields)
  1. Go to Lists & Segments > Create List
  1. Import contacts via CSV upload
  1. Use list for flows or campaigns

Use cases

  • Product preference targeting
  • Purchase intent segmentation
  • Concern-based marketing flows

Step 3: Build Recommended Flows

Flow 1: Coin Balance Reminder

Trigger: Scheduled (monthly recommended)

Filter: TYB Members with Coins to Spend

Email:

  • “You have {{ coin balance }} coins waiting”

Flow 2: Post-Purchase Invite to Join TYB (Non-Members)

Trigger: Placed Order

Filter:

tyb_community_member does not equal true

Flow 3: TYB Loyalty Reward Confirmation (Members)

Trigger: Placed Order

Filter:

tyb_community_member equals true

Flow 4: Re-Engagement

Trigger: Scheduled monthly

Filter: Inactive TYB Members segment

Flow 5: TYB Invitation Flow

Trigger: Post-purchase or monthly scheduled campaign

Filter:

tyb_community_member does not equal true

Step 4: Dynamic Coin Balance in Emails

Use:

{{ person|lookup:'tyb_coin_balance'|default:'0' }}

Example:

  • You have {{ coin_balance }} coins to spend

Recommended Always-On Footer

{% if person|lookup:'tyb_community_member' == 'true'
and person|lookup:'tyb_coin_balance'|default:'0' > 0 %}

You have {{ person|lookup:'tyb_coin_balance'|default:'0' }} coins. Redeem them here.

{% else %}

Join our community and earn coins on every order.

{% endif %}

Troubleshooting

No TYB properties visible

  • Wait 24–48 hours after integration

Segments returning empty

  • Check spelling + case sensitivity

Coin balance outdated

  • Sync runs once daily

Lists not triggering flows

  • Ensure correct segment is attached to flow

Key Takeaways

  • Only use tyb_community_member as the primary identity flag
  • Use tyb_last_app_activity to help identify inactive or disengaged users
  • Avoid legacy fields like tyb_is_member or tyb_community_status
  • All segmentation should rely on synced TYB properties only
