Social Boost

Reward members for social engagement activities, including commenting on a social post.

Overview

TYB’s Social Boost feature is a new challenge type that lets brands drive real social engagement for comments by rewarding TYB community members with coins for completing the action.

Now, brands can direct their TYB community to a specific social post and reward members for engaging with it through automated verification. The members social action will be automatically verified, cutting out manual tracking in Brand Admin, and brands will be able to see the impact from TYB users directly in the Challenges dashboard.

For members, it's a challenge that has a clear action and an immediate payoff. For brands, it's a way to amplify content that’s already being created, using the community you’ve already built and being able to measure the results.

How it Works

Social Boost is a new challenge type that rewards your TYB members for engaging with a specific Instagram post — you paste the URL, pick the action (comment only for MVP), set a coin reward, and we handle the rest. You'll see exactly who engaged and their follower count.

⚠️

The Social Boost challenge type is only available to brands with this feature enabled. If you’re interested in testing Social Boost challenges, please reach out to your Implementation Manager or Brand Success Manager.

1. Create Social Boost Challenge

In Brand Admin, create a new challenge and select Social Action as the challenge type.

After selecting the Social Action Challenge Type, write out your Challenge prompt, select the social platform you want to drive engagement on, choose a social action, enter the post URL, and set the coin reward.

Note: Social Boost is only available for Instagram as a platform, and comments as the social action. Additional platforms and and engagement types will be added in the future.

2. Members Engage in TYB App

After it is published, the Challenge will appear in the TYB app with a "Leave a comment" button instead of a text input. The challenge card shows the reward, prompt, and cover image — same structure as other challenges.

3. Member Connects Instagram Account

If the member hasn't connected their Instagram account to TYB yet, tapping the CTA triggers an Instagram OAuth modal: "Connect Instagram to complete this challenge."The member will authenticate once, and TYB verifies their account. On subsequent challenges, this step is skipped.

4. Member Completes Action on Instagram

After connecting, the app opens the Instagram post (in-app browser or native deep link). The member completes the action then returns to TYB.

5. TYB Verifies and Reward

After being brought back to the TYB app, the member clicks on the “I commented” button. Verification runs in the background via Instagram's API. Most verifications are complete within a few seconds:

  • Success: Member sees a toast — "Reward earned!" — and coins are credited. If they've left the app, they get a push notification.
  • Failed: If the action can't be confirmed after ~5 minutes, a bottom sheet appears letting the member try again. TYB also sends a push notification if the app isn't open.

6. Review Results

In Brand Admin, the challenge response view shows:

  • Number of comments added by the TYB community
  • List of members who participated, their Instagram handles, and their follower counts (social reach)

FAQ

Q: A member says they completed the action but didn't get their coins. What do I do?

A: Verification can take up to 5 minutes. If they've waited and still nothing, ask them to check that their Instagram account is connected and that the action was completed on the correct post. If the issue persists, escalate to the product team — this may be a verification failure.

Q: I can't find the "Social Boost" challenge type in Brand Admin.

A: The feature is currently behind a feature flag. If you’re interested in testing Social Boost challenges, please reach out to your Implementation Manager or Brand Success Manager.

Q: Can I drive engagement to a TikTok post?

A: Not yet. The first version of Social Boost Challenges is Instagram only. TikTok support is planned for a future release.

Q: How does TYB verify that a member actually liked or commented?

A: Through Instagram's API. Members must connect their Instagram once via OAuth. TYB verifies the action was completed — it never posts on their behalf.

Q: What happens if the Instagram post gets deleted after the challenge is published?

A: The challenge will no longer be completable. Members will see an error state.

Q: Can brands see which members commented and what they said?

A: Yes — the challenge response view shows participating members and their social handles. The comment text is visible in the response table.
